ALARM bells have been ringing after the meadows that form a green cushion between Farnham town centre and the bypass were put up for sale by the family that has owned them for 80 years.

The 34-acre site, crossed by well-used footpath links to the town centre and St Andrew's churchyard, has been used for decades as if it were public open space, with generations of children fishing in the river.
