CONFUSION reigns over parking restrictions in Church Lane near the health centre, Haslemere town councillor Mark Lelliott told a committee meeting last week.
Mr Lelliott was reporting on comments made by local residents over white hatching lines painted on the road to combat congestion caused by parked cars.
He said motorists were unsure whether to park in the spaces or within the hatching.
The parking problems were among a number of items discussed by the town council and Surrey County Council local transportation director for Waverley, Philip Crossland, who attended last week's meeting along with Haslemere's county councillor, Christine Stevens.
Mr Crossland told the meeting that the markings had been installed as a temporary measure ahead of a SCC parking review of the whole area later this year. It will be part of findings into the possibility of creating controlled parking zones within in the town at a later date.
Mr Crossland said he was still awaiting a reply from a letter to the health centre which suggested removing some staff- parking from the health centre to alternative parking areas in the town.
He also advised the meeting: "There is no law to stop parking on the hatching and people can park in the gaps," he said.
But he added that the parking review would decide whether it was necessary to put yellow lines on Church Lane.
On the subject of developers' contributions being spent on more parking provision, Mrs Stevens said that the parking review "would give a real opportunity for SCC, Waverley, and the town council to consider issues in a more open and democratic way to meet the real needs of parking".
