THE catering facilities at Farnham Conservative Club in Ivy Lane are now back up and running.
Having been out of commission for a while the kitchen has now been taken over by club member Jacqueline Gotfredsen. “I am on the committee and then we lost our chef, and we just couldn’t find anyone. I said ‘I’m not working at the moment, I’ll step in’, and here I am.
“I do enjoy it, it’s nice to be working back in Farnham – I know all the faces here. I used to have The Plough, about three or four years ago now, so I am an ex-landlady and now a catering manager.
“Our big drive at the moment is too get more members. This club is Farnham’s best kept secret, because it’s hidden away people don’t know it’s here.
“We try and coincide with all of the big events, so St Patrick’s Day we did a special lunch, and every Christmas Eve we have a carol concert here, along with Santa. If the catering is up and running we take more behind the bar, which means more people coming in.
“If we had more members coming in then we could extend the catering and run it seven-days-a-week, but unfortunately we can’t right now.”
The catering for the club is run Tuesday to Friday, from 12pm until 2pm, with sandwiches on Saturdays. Every Friday night the club has a supper evening, which is a little bit more up-market than the food served during the week and is fully serviced. Alongside this there is a monthly brunch or lunch on either a Saturday or Sunday.
Jacqueline’s aim is to cover every sporting event possible, as well as other important occasions taking place throughout the year. When the rugby was on the club offered a big brunch to coincide with the England v Wales game.
As well as the food being back up and running, the club has a lot more to offer townsfolk, whether they are members or not.
There is a conference room which can be let out on a daily basis for £100 a day; a Scalextrix room in use a couple of nights a week, open to anyone wanting to give it a try; a snooker room; and a function room which is ideal for weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Christmas events, birthday parties and so forth.
