BRAMSHOTT and Liphook Conservatives held a dinner last week where guests enjoyed an evening of "convivial celebration" to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Guests were greeted with a portrait of the Queen beside a beautiful display of flowers, while the hall had been bedecked in bunting, and a selection of patriotic music played in the background.
Tables at Liphook village hall were decorated with candlesticks wrapped in Union jacks, as well as floral arrangements and canapes and a glasses of fizz were enjoyed at the reception before the meal.
Floss Mitchell, the prospective Conservative candidate for Hampshire County Council, covering Bramshott and Liphook, Grayshott and Headley, introduced herself to the guests, before next week election to be held on Thursday, May 5.
Chairman Angela Glass read out a letter of loyal greetings, birthday wishes, and thanks, for all the service which the Queen had given to her country, that had been sent to Her Majesty, as well as the response received from Christopher Sandamas, Chief Clerk to the Queen, in which he said Her Majesty appreciated the thoughtfulness in writing, and in return, sent her best wishes to all those who would be present, for a most memorable and enjoyable gathering.
Mrs Glass, a district councillor, then proposed the Loyal Toast, and guests sang the National Anthem.
She also said a few words about the service the Queen had given over so many years, and included a part of Princess Elizabeth’s 21st birthday speech, in which she said “I declare before you all, that my whole life whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great Imperial family, to which we all belong.”
