Liphook continued their greatly improved form with an exciting last-ball victory over third-placed Bournemouth on Saturday.

The result means that Calmore Sports, who lost to Portsmouth by three wickets, will finish second from bottom, one place above relegated Burridge.

After the long journey across the county, Liphook elected to bat and Alastair Gray again provided the backbone of the innings with 54.

Chris Wright, Neil Randall, Jeremy Bulled and Michael Smyth all gave useful support, although none went on to make a real contribution.

Graeme Tyler and Nick Gay kept the late order going, but although Liphook managed to bat out their overs, the total of 190 did not seem enough. The conditions, however, favoured the bowlers and only 11 boundaries were scored in the innings.

Bournemouth started well and with useful contributions from Matt Swarbrick and Geoff Warrington, were in the driving seat at 137-3, with 11 overs remaining.

Wright and Glen Read were brought back into the attack and, after the crucial run-out of Warrington for 41, claimed three wickets between them.

Bournemouth stuttered to 182-7, nine runs short of victory, with six balls left and 'senior pro' Tim Wheatley had the responsibility of bowling this last over.

Chris Cole was run out off the first ball, going for a second run. Wheatley bowled Joe Wilson with his second delivery and finally, with three needed from the last ball, Mark Mixer was run out going for the second, and the visitors had won by one run.

Liphook are home to Portsmouth in their last match this Saturday.
