STAFF at Bordon company Coomers were delighted to present the bowel-cancer charity GUTS with a cheque for £4,000.

The builders merchant adopted GUTS as its 2015 nominated charity and raised the money by holding corporate events including a charity golf day and in-store collections, and by sponsoring staff who took part in the Great South Run in Portsmouth in October last year.

Thanks to the support of customers and staff, more than £17,000 has been raised by Coomers for its nominated charities since 2010, with the total collected for GUTS - based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford - being a record amount.

In 2016 the family business - which has branches at the Woolmer Way Trading Estate in Bordon, in Oakhanger and in Haslemere - is celebrating its 60th anniversary and has chosen to support the Haslemere branch of cancer-support charity Mac-millan.

GUTS aims to improve the survival rates of people with bowel cancer through better screening, detection, treatment and care.

GUTS funds facilities, equipment, screening services and research into bowel cancer, and also strives to raise awareness about the disease.
