WAVERLEY Borough Council has admitted to exposing a young Farnham couple and their newborn baby to potentially fatal asbestos dust for more than three months.

Tiffany Kenton, 20, and Raymond Donnelly, 29, are terrified for the health of their daughter Lily-Mae after the asbestos exposure - which was only confirmed this week following a Freedom of Information request by The Herald.

The episode began in December 2012 when, in attempting to fix a bathroom pipe, the council's repairs contractor, Mears, disturbed an insulation panel in the family's council-owned home in The Chantrys.

Mears claimed the panel was a non-hazardous material called Superlux, meaning it could be disturbed without having to hire a licensed contractor, and the council initially backed up the contractor's claims.

However, some five months after the panel was damaged, scientific tests finally confirmed the wall panel was Asbestos Insulation Board, containing one of the most hazardous forms of asbestos, amosite.
