A VITAL service that takes patients direct from their home to their medical appointment at health facilities in Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere has received a cash boost.

Haslemere Town Council has renewed its commitment to Hoppa, the town’s door to door community transport service, by granting £5,000 towards the cost of running the service.

Hoppa general manager Steve Forward said: “Hospital Hoppa is relied upon by a number of Haslemere residents. We meet customers at their front door and drop them off outside the main entrance of the hospital in plenty of time for their appointment.

“The personal nature of our service means we get to know our passengers and their needs, so we can make their journey with us as comfortable as possible.”

To discover more about the service, Haslemere mayor and mayoress  David Round and Melanie Odell met with Hoppa’s general manager and one of the organisation’s regular drivers.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Round said: “It’s clear that without Hoppa, some of our residents would have no choice but to use more expensive and/or less convenient options to get to their medical appointment.

“At worst, some could even find themselves unable to attend and therefore miss important check-ups and treatment.

“Hoppa is a superb service which enables some of our most vulnerable and sick residents to access care, so they have the best possible chance of maintaining their health and independence. We are fortunate to have such a convenient and practical service in Haslemere and are delighted to continue with our support.”

The hospital Hoppa service can be used by passengers of all ages and is for anybody with a transport need. The fare costs £10 each way and £2.50 for a carer/companion. The buses can accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Registering to use it is simple and free and can be done at www.hoppa.org.uk
