A CAR-CLAMPING scheme looks set to be extended across Waverley after a successful trial in Wrecclesham.

Waverley council's policy-making executive committee agreed that the scheme, piloted in Beldham Road, should be extended to 31 council-owned areas on a shortlist, with more areas likely to follow.

Abbey Court in Abbey Street, Millstream, Roman Way and St James Court in East Street are the four Farnham areas earmarked.

Crossways Close and the back of Parkhurst Community Centre in Churt, and West Hill, Hazelwood and Springwood in Elstead are also proposed.

Council officers reported: "Not only does this cause an increase in the fear of crime by degrading the visual impact of the local environment, but is also a magnet for children to play on and in them."

The housing department's pilot scheme in Beldham Road started in December last year.

The seven-day-a-week, 24-hour service is provided by private company Security International Group.

Owners of clamped vehicles have to pay a £60 release fee and clampers have to release vehicles within
