EVERY pupil in every West Sussex school is being challenged to ‘Name a Gritter’ this winter.
West Sussex County Council contractor Balfour Beatty is running the annual contest. It wants to rename three of the yellow gritters in its fleet.
The three pupils who come up with the best names will each receive a High Street voucher.
Their school will also win a grit bin, grit salt to fill it and snow shovels.
Schools can email pene. [email protected] for a copy of the entry form to distribute.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 24.
A gritter will arrive at the winning schools on Friday, November 27, to show off its new name to everyone.
Visitors from Balfour Beatty will also give a talk to the school on how important it is to “Be Safe, Be Seen” this winter.
John O’Brien, county council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We need some new ones to join the likes of Gritney Spears and Freddie Salted in keeping our roads safe in winter.”
