THE leader of East Hampshire District Council has turned down the opportunity to give himself a 30 per cent pay rise after councillors voted in favour of increasing the allowance on Tuesday night.
A recommendation was passed by East Hampshire district councillors at their full council meeting that the leader's allowance should rise from its present level of £12,300 to £16,000 "to bring it in line with the market rate".
