FARNHAM'S only remaining council-run care home is threatened with closure after a Surrey County Council review found it is failing to meet modern standards.
Cobgates care home in Falkner Road was built in the 1970s and is one of the six remaining homes still maintained by the county council.
However, at Tuesday's meeting of Surrey's cabinet, councillors agreed to consult the public on plans to close all six homes, including Cobgates.
The move would see Cobgates' 34 current residents, as well as hundreds across Surrey, moved to private care homes to allow the buildings to be sold.
