COUNCILLOR Adam Carew was welcomed by pupils at new Hollywater School, East Hampshire's only special school. Headeacher Barbara Livings was pleased to welcome Mr Carew to the state-of-the-art new special school which is set in superb rural surroundings.

Mr Carew who is county councillor for Whitehill, Bordon and Lindford and Lib Dem Prospective MP for East Hampshire was treated to a guided tour of the school and met with a number of pupils, teachers and carers.

Hollywater was officially opened by the Countess of Wessex two years ago and welcomes young people with special needs from a wide catchment area, with a range of special needs. Hollywater School is totally accessible and inclusive, with strong links to the local mainstream schools in Whitehill-Bordon and the surrounding area.

Key Stage 4 pupils access the local colleges for taster courses, and many older pupils carry out two weeks work experience with local businesses, with great success and enjoyment.

Mrs Livings said: "Adam Carew showed a keen interest in our school and the achievements of our pupils and was able to visit all classes. The pupils of Hollywater are rightly proud of their school and were eager to show it off."

Mr Carew said: "I am very grateful to Hollywater school for their warm welcome. I am staggered by the superb quality of the facilities on offer. This is a wonderful learning environment for young people with special needs to grow up in.

"I was instantly struck by the kind, friendly atmosphere. Here the ethos is all about inclusiveness, mutual support and building confidence and self worth.

"The enthusiasm and achievements of its children is matched by the sheer professionalism and dedication of its staff. Hollywater School is an amazing facility and we are very proud to have it here."
