MAJORITY support for a plan to build Haslemere its own bandstand was provided by town councillors last week.

But not everyone was convinced it was a good idea.

Haslemere councillor Ged Hall, who is leading a project to erect a town bandstand at Lion Green, updated fellow members at the council's annual meeting last Thursday on pre-application discussions currently under way with Waverley planning officers.

He also appealed for their support in approving an extra £1,000 to pay for a tree survey, which has been requested by the borough council as part of the planning application, but was not originally budgeted for.

Officers have asked for a tree survey to be carried out to establish whether piled foundations will be required to safeguard the roots of neighbouring trees.

Councillor Melanie Odell told the meeting she had "huge concerns" about the proposal to erect a permanent structure at Lion Green.
