ROWLEDGE'S breakaway campaign gathered momentum this week, with a number of high profile councillors speaking out in favour of the village's proposed split from Farnham town council.

Borough councillors Elliot Nichols (UKIP) and Wyatt Ramsdale (Conservative), both Rowledge residents, have written to The Herald supporting the breakaway and calling for the village's "distinct character" to be recognised.

It comes midway through the second consultation phase on the proposals, in which residents of the proposed new parish in Rowledge and Boundstone are being asked by Waverley Borough Council if they are for or against the split.

Rowledge is currently part of the Farnham Town Council area.
