NOT a single Waverley councillor accepted an invitation from traffic campaigners to view and discuss the weight of traffic and hazards of Hickley's Corner earlier this month.

The absence of all 57 members - only eight of whom even bothered to reply to the invitation - left the Farnham Society's traffic expert, Robert Mansfield, and fellow campaigner Celia Sandars, to conduct a traffic count on their own.

The site visit was planned to highlight the implications of the planned restricting of the eastbound carriageway to one lane over a 26-week period, during construction and dismantling of the temporary bridge to the East Street Brightwells development site.

"It would have been good to have been able to demonstrate to our elected members that there is a real and serious problem with this proposal. Sadly they were not able, or interested or willing to attend," said Mr Mansfield.
