TEN flats proposed for Hillbrow Road, Liss, have been called ugly and inappropriate by the parish council.

Mr P Keen has applied for planning permission to build ten flats with associated parking and access on the site of the dental surgery.

Councillors considered the proposal an overdevelopment of the site and disproportionate to its size.

They believed the design and materials of the frontage were inappropriate and unsympathetic to the street scene and would only add to the urbanisation of the village.

They said that this part of the village was in need of enhancement and did not want or need a further ugly and inappropriate building being erected.

They suggested removing the two rear units, which would provide scope for a less cramped development more in keeping with the village environment as well as a communal space for the residents.

Further space would also be released for improvements to the building frontage, allowing for landscaping and softening of the large Tarmac area.

Councillors also considered that insufficient space had been provided to accommodate recycling bins and wheelie bins.
