STANDING room only is anticipated next Thursday when Farnham Town Council considers its submission to Waverley over Crest Nicholson's East Street planning application. Earlier in the day the developer's month-long exhibition of the proposals opens at 40degreez, the youth centre next to Farnham Sports Centre, from 1 to 6.30 pm. The town council meeting begins at 7pm, with a series of two-minute slots allocated to public speakers and a presentation of the proposals before the councillors' deliberations. The meeting will be podcast and available for viewing afterwards on the council's website, http://www.farnham.gov.uk">www.farnham.gov.uk Waverley Council's website on Tuesday was recording that 1,631 objections had so far been received to the main application for the overall development, with just 10 in support and two of neither view. The application for listed building consent for demolition of the Redgrave Theatre and conversion of Brightwell House for restaurant use had attracted 1,108 objections, three letters of support and one of neither view. The Farnham Theatre Association this week defended the validity of the pro forma letters of objection that it, along with East Street Action and the Farnham Society, have been encouraging the public to fill in. "These are prepared letters for individuals to sign and they are not petitions," said association chairman Anne Cooper. She said the letters contain planning reasons for refuslal, space for individual comments and are acceptable to Waverley Council. "We expect the public will continue to make use of this quick and easy way to register their comments on the East Street plans," she said.
