WHETHER you’re into boy bands, heavy metal or good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll, this summer’s Farnham Carnival promises to have you tapping your toes and dancing in the streets.

That’s the message from the carnival team as plans for this year’s procession and Gostrey Meadow fayre get well under way.

“With the theme of ‘Rock and Pop Legends’, this provides a great opportunity for young and old alike to salute their musical heroes and dress up in the most outrageous costumes, just like their idols,” said carnival chairman Colin Jordan.

Organised by the Farnham Lions and The Hedgehogs, Carnival 2018 will take place on Saturday, June 30.

“As ever, both the procession and fayre always attract huge crowds to the town whatever the weather, though sunshine always adds to the fun on the day of course,” Colin added.

Throughout the afternoon and evening Gostrey Meadow will provide music and entertainment put on by local performers, as well as a wide range of charity stalls, drinks tents and food stalls, again including a seafood bar which proved so popular in reflecting last year’s seaside theme.

In addition, with Farnham’s strong reputation as a crafts town the carnival team is planning two crafts marquees and would be delighted to hear from local crafts people keen to showcase their work. As ever, there also will be a large children’s play area with entertainers providing something special for the younger visitors.

The procession organisers are keen to attract entrants from all parts of the Farnham community: participation is free and open to schools, charities, businesses and other groups, providing an opportunity to promote local organisations and give a ‘shop window’ to current projects and other initiatives.

Special awards and certificates will be presented to the most outstanding entries and, as in previous years, all proceeds collected during the procession will be shared between the participating schools, youth groups and charities.

The organisers also want to hear from any businesses which would like to contribute to sponsoring the event and help with the running costs.

As part of the publicity opportunities for all those providing financial support, regular Facebook and Twitter feeds will generate growing interest from followers as excitement builds towards the event and on carnival day itself.

“Carnival simply wouldn’t happen without the generosity of local organisations and individuals,” said Colin. ”At the same time, volunteers from Lions, Hedgehogs and across the Farnham community do a great job in organising and running activities throughout the day.

“Now is the time to start thinking about how you can take part in carnival, which is always one of the biggest and most enjoyable days in the Farnham calendar,” he continued.

“So, whether you are interested in sponsorship, taking a stall at the Gostrey Meadow fayre, joining the procession or simply want to find out more about the day’s activities, please visit our carnival website at www.farnhamcarnival.org.
