POLICE officers have issued a warning to local businesses and residents to be on the look-out for counterfeit cash which has begun to circulate locally.

Officers from Whitehill police have been handed counterfeit £10, £20 and £50 notes which have been circulating in Whitehill, Liphook, Headley, Lindford and Grayshott over the past few weeks.

Anyone who comes into the possession of notes which they suspect to be counterfeit are urged to take them to the police station to have it checked out as attempting to pass it onto another individual is a criminal offence.

Pc Paula Jackson said: ÒIf you get one of these notes then you must pass it on to the police. It helps us build a case and find out where these notes are coming from.

ÒFinger prints are also important and if you get hold of one of these notes then put it into an envelope, which will limit the fingerprints on it.Ó
