NOW in its 66th year the Farnham Country Market - formerly the WI Country Market - is expanding with a monthly market on a Saturday morning in the United Reformed Church, South Street.

The Friday weekly market will continue as usual from 9.30am to 11am. But starting on Saturday, April 23 between 10am and noon, the markets will continue on every third Saturday in the month.

On sale will be unusual chutneys and hand cut marmalades a selection of gluten free cakes and other baking and savouries, honey and eggs. Hand knitted garments which are expertly crafted and can be made to order.

Cards, jewellery, wood turning, artificial floral arrangements, plants and garden produce will be on sale along with other interesting items.

All food producers have hygiene certificates and registered kitchens which are regularly inspected.

The market also sells produce at the Maltings Monthly Market on the first Saturday of each month.

Opening in 1949 at the bottom of Castle Street the WI Country Market was a popular feature of Friday trading in the town.

Operating from a caravan which had to be towed on and off the site each week the producers offered home baking preserves, eggs and plants in the morning and handicrafts in the afternoon.

As the costs of towing the caravan increased it was decided to move venue to the United Reformed Church hall in South Street where it open each Friday from 9am to 11.30am.
