PROPOSALS to hold an extra car boot sale a week at Country Market in Kingsley are due to be discussed next Thursday by East Hampshire District Council.

The north planning sub-committee will put the application under the microscope and case officer Keith Oliver is recommending that the proposals be given the go- ahead.

Country Market, on the A325, has been hosting car boot sales for around eight years and currently holds them on Sundays mornings.

However, it now wants to extend the sales to Wednesdays.

Kingsley Parish Council is opposed to the application, arguing that it would increase traffic on the A325.

In the report to the committee, the parish council said: "There will be an increase in traffic on the A325 and stallholders will be arriving long before 10 am.

"On Sundays there is no given opening time and stallholders and buyers arrive by 8 am.

"Councillors think that one car boot sale a week is sufficient. The A325 is very busy on a weekday."

In his report, Mr Oliver addresses these concerns.

He says: "The applicant indicates that mid-week market would expect to attract less than 50 per cent of the traffic movements of a Sunday market.

"He also suggests that sales be limited to between 10 am and 3 pm, thereby avoiding peak traffic flows on the A325.

"The county surveyor is agreeable to the proposal, subject to any permission being limited to these hours."

Mr Oliver also pointed out that improvements have been made to the entrance to Country Market.
