A FARNHAM Surrey county councillor has attacked a report which includes two of Farnham's most important traffic schemes as "seriously flawed". David Munro, who is chairman of the Farnham Traffic Task Group which consists of councillors from Surrey, Waverley and Farnham, has condemned an internal report by consultants commissioned by Surrey County Council. It analyses the top 50 major highways schemes that the county should persue. Mr Munro said that while the report mentions the recently-postponed Hickley's Corner underpass, it does not recommend that a Wrecclesham relief road is pursued. Mr Munro has written to Surrey' director of transportation, Callum Findley, expressing his serious misgivings and asking that the report be withdrawn. "I can't possibly let the assumptions behind it, which are by and large against a Wrecclesham bypass, go unchallenged. Mr Munro who now intends to talk with other organisations involved, said: "I've let the county know that it's completely unacceptable to base any selection of traffic schemes in the next bidding round on such a shaky foundation, and I hope the report will be quietly buried." This week the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for South West Surrey, Jeremy Hunt, spoke of the "widespread disappointment at the failure of the Hickley's Corner scheme to get funding." He has organised a conference for members of the public and interested parties to discus Farnham's transport infrastructure. "Traffic is the biggest single nightmare facing Farnham. We must use the delay over Hickley's Corner to think more strategically and holistically about Farnham's transport infrastructure," said Mr Hunt. The conference takes place on January 27 at Church House, Farnham at 8 pm.
