Weydon School’s under-16s netball team have been crowned County Cup champions, after beating Howard of Effingham in the final at the Guildford Spectrum.

The Weydon team, made up mainly of under-15s players, rose to the occasion, narrowly winning the first half 10-8 before stepping up their game play during the third quarter with some quick attacking play and accurate shooting.

The defensive unit and full court defensive put Howard under pressure and forced them into errors. By the end of the third quarter Weydon had extended their lead to 21-12.

The girls kept their composure during the last 15 minutes to ensure a 26-15 win.

Lara Crenan, netball coach at Weydon, said: “‘I am so incredibly proud of what these girls have achieved. This group of students are extremely dedicated and have a drive to win.

“They constantly want to improve and work hard together to be successful. Their passion for netball really shines through and they are a pleasure to coach.”
