A PREGNANT woman and her husband were killed when two cars collided on the B2131 at Linchmere on Saturday. Three people, travelling in the other vehicle, were taken to hospital after the crash at 5.30pm. Andy, 40, and Trudi Snook, 37, from Hammer Hill, died at the scene. Mrs Snook was six months pregnant with their first child. Emergency services, including Hampshire Air Ambulance, attended but could not save Mr and Mrs Snook, who had been travelling east in a blue Renault Megan. The couple were on their way home from Petersfield Bowling and Snooker Club, where they were popular members. They had spent the afternoon helping to install a new kitchen at the club in St Peter's Road, and were planning that evening to enjoy a Chinese meal with friends back at the club. The three injured people in the other car - a 33- year-old driver and two passengers, one thought to be a 14-year-old - were taken to hospitals in Surrey and Hamp-shire. Earlier this week, each was said to be in a stable condition. They had been travelling in a BMW. Police have not yet named them and did not say where they were from. The road was closed for several hours after the crash, causing long delays in the area. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any cars being driven erratically. Inspector Phil Nicholas, from the Sussex Road Policing Unit, said: "What we are keen to do is identify any witnesses who may have seen the collision or, in particular, the BMW, which was travelling west, prior to the collision. "We have to keep an open mind in relation to the cause." Tributes have been paid to the dead couple by shocked Peterfield Bowling and Snooker Club members, who held a minute's silence on Monday evening. A sign on the club noticeboard reads: "Trudi and Andy. Absent Friends." Mr Snook, a lorry driver who previously lived in Bordon, had two children from a previous marriage, and was said to be "thrilled" at the prospect of his third child with Mrs Snook, a furniture designer. He was captain of the snooker "A" team at the club, which plays in the Midhurst and District League, and his wife accompanied him to many of the matches. They were married in September 2005. John Hounsome, captain of snooker at the Petersfield club, said he had known the couple since they joined the club about five years ago. He said club members were trying to come to terms with the news of the tragedy. "They were so looking forward to having the baby. It was what Trudi had always wanted. She would have been a perfect mother." He described Andy as "a 20-stone gentle giant, who'd do anything for anyone". Mr Hounsome said: "When people heard what had happened they just couldn't believe it." The crash happened on the Hammer-to-Liphook section of the road, near a brow of a hill and a junction. Residents told The Herald this week there were safety concerns about the road, which is: wooded on each side; often has speeding traffic and is not lit. There are no houses along the section, but in nearby Danley Lane, one resident said: "People need to be made more aware of how dangerous the road is. I think that the junction should be shut. A lot of people try to turn left off the main road to come up here and there are blind spots as well." Chairman of Linchmere Parish Council Sylvia McCallum said, although the cause of the accident was not yet known, the parish council was concerned about the speed at which people travelled along the road and the safety of the nearby junction. She added: "It is known as quite a dangerous stretch of road. Visibility is a lot less than people think it is. The visibility problem is that it is on a brow of a hill and there are dips." Sergeant Stewart Goodwin, of the Sussex Road Policing Unit, is asking for witnesses to contact him with any information on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Burrow.
