AS the county endured increased levels of hate crimes following the EU referendum, two Farnham residents expressed their concerns after waking to find a “threatening” note telling them to “go home”.

The residents who prefer to remain anonymous, said of the incident: “We were so distressed to find the words ‘GO HOME’ written in the dust on the rear windscreen of our car. My husband is German, I am English, we have a home and family in Germany and travel frequently between here and there.

“We therefore, have a German registered car. This has upset us both greatly. We would like to say to the unkind person/persons responsible, that this was a thoughtless and racist thing to do.

“Not something we expect from anyone in Farnham. We are responsible citizens, take nothing whatsoever in hand outs, in fact the reverse. I hope that this mindless act, will not escalate and the perpetrators can sleep at night.”

According to online reports, Surrey Police figures showed a rise in the total number of reported incidents during the summer, logging in more than 120 incidents alone in July - with a majority of those crimes reported relating to race.
