A CRAZED knife-wielding 53-year-old who tried to smash his way into an “honourable” retired couple’s home in Haslemere has been jailed for almost two years.

Stephen Evans, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 21 months behind bars at Guildford Crown Court last Friday after a violent episode in Lion Mead, Haslemere, in the afternoon of August 20, 2019.

Police say the couple had become caught in the middle of a “feud” between Evans and a group of “girls and boys they had innocently taken in”.

Evans arrived at the couple’s home and used “threatening behaviour to try to force his way in”, repeatedly kicking their front door and attempting to use a knife to get inside.

It was only when the couple’s son left his parents’ home by a side door that he managed to get Evans (pictured) to stop. But the 53-year-old then began to threaten the victim’s son with a knife before discarding it in a bush when police arrived.

Evans was arrested at the scene and last week pleaded guilty to affray, criminal damage, possession of a bladed weapon and Class B drugs, and threatening behaviour.

Detective Constable Kerry Plumb said: “This incident was truly shocking for the victims concerned.

“They did an honourable thing and took in some youths who sought refuge at their home after a previous incident at another address.

“Evans’ behaviour that day was not only terrifying but it’s left a significant lasting impact on the victims who are still recovering from it.”
