A Crondall man has been committed to a young offenders’ institution for ten weeks after assaulting a female police officer.

Reece Bryant, 20, of Lefroy’s Field, was sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on August 17.

He pleaded guilty to the common assault of a “public servant carrying out public duties” on July 14 in Yateley.

This was contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

Magistrates slapped him with a custodial sentence totalling ten weeks, reasoning that the offence was “so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified”.

Magistrates spoke of the “deliberate attack”, adding the defendant has a “flagrant disregard for court orders”, as the offence was committed while Bryant was subject to a community order which had also been breached and re-sentenced.
