Two teenagers accused of murdering Farnham schoolboy Luis Guembes Quimper appeared at Guildford Crown Court this morning (Monday, October 19) as a jury was sworn in for their four-week trial.

The defendants, both now aged 16, appeared in the dock as 12 jurors were selected to hear the case.

All Hallows School student Luis Guembes was pronounced dead at Peacock Woods, near Stoke Park in Guildford, following reports of a stabbing on January 19, 2026.

The teenagers face charges of murder, conspiracy to rob and possession of a bladed article.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

The defendants cannot be identified because of a reporting restriction under Section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999.

Members of Luis's family watched from the public gallery as proceedings began.

Ms Justice Norton told the court that little progress would be made on the opening day, with prosecutor Julian Evans KC due to open the prosecution case on Tuesday (October 20).

One defendant is represented by Rodrick Johnson KC and Nick Wayne Jnr, while the other is represented by Tim Forte KC and Alexandra Scott Jnr.

Potential jurors were questioned about any connections to the case or the defendants before a jury of four men and eight women was sworn in.

The judge reminded jurors that they must decide the case solely on the evidence presented in court and must not discuss proceedings with anyone, including on social media.

She also explained that adjustments would be made because the defendants and some witnesses are children. These could include shorter court sessions, additional breaks and changes to barristers' courtroom dress.

The trial continues on Tuesday, when the prosecution is expected to outline its case.
