AN elderly woman driver was taken to Frimley Park Hospital after her car mounted the pavement and hit the front of the Cancer Research shop in Downing Street on Tuesday. The street was closed for almost an hour after the incident, which also involved a white hire truck, in the narrowest section of the street. Staff in the charity shop heard a loud bang as the silver Vauxhall Corsa struck a pillar between the shop's windows just before 2pm. All the emergency services attended and traffic was turned round and sent out via Victoria Road The woman driving the Vauxhall sustained leg injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. A structural engineer was sent out to check the safety of the building and the road re-opened around 3pm.
