A 30-year-old man killed in a collision on the A31 Hogs Back at the weekend, has been formally identified. He was James Broad from Whitehill in Hampshire. Surrey Police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision, which occurred on the Farnham-bound carriageway, before the turning for Puttenham (B3000). A black Peugeot 306, being driven by Mr Broad, left the road and headed into the central reservation before crashing into several trees. Mr Broad, the only person in the car, was killed. Officers from the collision-investigation unit are trying to establish when the fatal collision happened. Police were alerted by a member of the public at about 12-30 pm on Saturday lunchtime. Officers had attended another incident nearby several hours earlier, shortly after 3 am, in which a 35-year-old man driving a silver Vauxhall Zafira was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving. Later the man was further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail until April. At this stage, investigations are underway to establish whether the two incidents are connected. The A31 was closed between Guildford and Puttenham, on the Farnham-bound carriageway, until around 9 pm on Saturday. Police are appealing for anyone who used the stretch of road in the early hours of Saturday morning, and who thinks they may have see anything relating to a motoring incident, to contact the crash-investigation unit on 01932 569922.
