CREDIT card fraudsters have struck in Petersfield again, using a plastic device to steal a card.
The card was stolen from the NatWest Bank ATM in the High Street on Monday last week. Two other cards were stolen in Petersfield on August 17, one of them from the NatWest ATM.
Two suspects, a man and a woman, appear to be working as a team. The man is Arabic in appearance, aged between 30 and 34, of stocky build, with short black hair, clean shaven and wearing a jacket, trousers and shirt.
The woman is 18 to 20 years old, of thin build with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
To work the scam the man pushes in front of the person whose card he wishes to steal and, using his jacket as a cover, puts the plastic device into the ATM. The victim then places his own card in the ATM and enters the pin number which the woman, standing behind him, notes on her mobile phone key pad. The ATM apparently retains the card and, when the person gives up trying to get it back and leaves, the woman retrieves the plastic device and the card.
There have been many other thefts using a similar method throughout the county.
Police warn that if your card gets stuck in the machine report it to the bank immediately. Do not give your PIN number to anyone and be careful of anyone standing close enough to read the number as you enter it.
