Crime has risen over the last year in Waverley, official police records reveal.
Surrey Police recorded 5,694 offences in Waverley in the 12 months to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.
That was an increase of 2% compared to the previous year, when there were 5,593.
However, at 45.0 crimes per 1,000 people, that was far lower than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 89.3.
Of the crimes recorded in the area over the last 12 months, 217 were sexual offences – an increase of 15% from the year before.
Meanwhile, violent crime has risen in the area, from 1,847 to 2,060 over this period.
One of the main factors behind this increase was the rise in violence without injury, which rose by 23%, from 721 incidents to 887.
And theft offences rose by 8%, with 1,822 incidents recorded in the 12 months to March.
At 14.4 crimes per 1,000 people, that was far lower than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 25.1.
Crimes recorded in Waverley included:
- 217 sexual offences, a rise of 15%
- 2,060 violent offences, a rise of 12%
- 626 incidents of criminal damage and arson, down 16%
- 116 drug offences, down 41%
- 47 possession of weapons such as firearms or knives, a decrease of two
- 697 public order offences, down 4%
- 1,822 theft offences, a rise of 8%
- 657 stalking and harassment offences, up 5%
