A BID to close a level-crossing in Sheet represents a "once-in-a-generation opportunity" to improve the village, according to supporters. Network Rail is willing to spend big bucks on a package of road improvements if they get the green light to close the School Lane crossing to vehicles. Parish councillors heard on Tuesday that proposals included the installation of traffic lights at the junction of Pulens Lane, London Road and Inmans Lane. Residents also pointed out the dramatic difference in safety and atmosphere in the village centre during the recent week-long closure of School Lane. But Sheet Parish Council insist they will not confirm whether they back or support the closure until they see firm proposals from Network Rail. For full story, see this week's Petersfield Herald.
