A BUDDING young chef from Farnham has been crowned the winner of the Young Pea Chef of the Year competition 2018 - a national recipe competition which challenges children to develop a delicious recipe using peas.

Jack Simms, a student at St Polycarp’s Catholic Primary School, was one of five finalists in the primary school category who won over the nation with his delicious Pea-culiar Crumble.

He will receive a hamper full of cooking equipment worth £50 from the competition sponsor, Ocado, as well as £500 for his school from the Ocado Foundation which will go towards ‘Grow-Your-Own’ projects.

All 15 finalists will feature in a recipe e-book which will be distributed nationwide and available to download.

Jack said: “I’m really happy to have won and as I’m in year six the prize is a great leaving gift to my school. A big thank you to everyone that voted for me and please have a go at making my yummy pea-culiar crumble.”

The competition, now in its third year, is run by the Yes Peas! campaign on behalf of the British Growers Association and sponsored by the Ocado Foundation.
