BRING your bike and learn how to fix a puncture, change a tyre, adjust brakes and do the ‘M’ check and much more at the free bike maintenance workshop taking place later this month.

The event on Wednesday, November 25, is taking place at the United Reformed Church in South Street, Farnham, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Susan Keywood from CTC, the national cycling charity, that inspires and helps people to cycle and keep cycling, is working together with the Farnham U3A to expand its existing cycling activity.

The U3A already runs a group, but is keen to encourage members who don’t cycle to start, and encourage those who do, to become more involved. U3A is equally keen to open up its led-rides to others in the community.

The maintenance workshop is a step towards encouraging this and breaking down barriers. The event will be informal and relaxed, it’s hands on and people work on their own bikes in small groups, together with a mechanic who will show them basic bike repair skills.

Susan said: “ What I really love about cycling with others is having time for a coffee after and good chat. I meet really interesting people in my job. There will an information hub too, informing on all things cycling in Farnham.

“As a cycling development officer I am working on a funded project that aims to establish community cycle clubs in the Blackwater Valley area and I have already done this in Ash and Camberley. A community cycle club might, for example, encourage people back on bikes, build cycle confidence, provide cycle skills coaching, take riders on leisurely rides, family rides, help an existing cycle group and so forth.”
