HASLEMERE cyclists are organising a Critical Mass Ride on Saturday (May 11) to raise awareness about how unsafe many riders feel in the town and to push for improvements.

Group spokesman David Elliott said: “We want our families and children and the local community to be able to access the fantastic health and environmental benefits cycling brings, and want to start a discussion about how to open up these benefits for more people to enjoy.

Cycling has great health benefits, and it is good for the environment. Yet it is poorly provided for and feels unsafe in Haslemere at the moment.

“We think if there was better, safer provision, more people would feel able to cycle in our lovely town.

“We are not out to cause traffic disruption – we are traffic. Most cyclists drive in cars and want to cycle at other times – let’s show we can get along.”

* Meet at Shottermill Ponds at 2pm for the 2.15pm mass ride to the High Street for coffee and a chat.
