IN tribute to its founding nearly 50 years ago, in October 1968, the Arford Women’s Institute planted 250 native daffodils.

WI members planted the flowers by the Headley Church Centre, at All Saints Church of England Church, earlier this month and they will bloom next spring in time for the WI’s 50th anniversary.

Janet Flournoy told the Bordon Herald: “Arford and Headley are adjacent villages and the Headley Church Centre has been our home since a group of young mothers, unable to attend daytime meetings, decided to begin an evening WI.

“Gillian Rawcliffe, who was the first president, is still an active member and Jean Kearon, Christine Leonard, Shelia Atkins and Marjorie Hall have been members for over 35 years. The blooms next spring, and in the years to come, will be a lovely tribute to the founding of the Arford WI.”
