A NEW way for boys to improve their fitness and to develop their performance, physical theatre and movement skills is being offered at Weydon School.

Leg-It is a boys’ only performance group that will take place every Thursday after school.

Choreographer Rachel Palmer from The Dance Movement will provide a supportive environment in which the boys will be able to build their skill levels in performance and discover more about dance.

The group will work towards teaming up with another boys’ performance group from Guildford and will jointly take part in a number of performances towards the end of 2015 and throughout the year in 2016.

Rachel Palmer from The Dance Movement said: “We have been providing dance opportunities for boys since 2006 and have seen many of our students go on to study dance vocationally.

“Over the years I have noticed how the boys in my groups always seem to have boundless energy and spend quite a lot of time ‘legging it’ around the room – it was this observation that led to this club being called Leg-It.

“We are thrilled to have received funding from The National Lottery and Sport England, via Active Surrey as it means we are able to offer the classes at a heavily subsidised price.”

The cost for each dancer is £15 per term. The term runs from Thursday, September 24, to Thursday, December 3. The class takes place from 3.45pm to 5pm.

To enrol, pupils from Weydon School should register with teacher Naomi Richards. Boys who are local but do not attend Weydon School are welcome to take part and should contact [email protected].

The Dance Movement is a not-for-profit organisation and is resident at the Farnham Maltings. As well as providing dance opportunities within schools, The Dance Movement offers a variety of community based classes for adults and young people.
