MORE than 150 pupils from Haslemere Performing Arts (HPA) took to the stage for its annual dance extravaganza, held at The Haslemere Hall.
Performing to full houses, the dancers and singers entertained appreciative audiences with a wide variety of dance styles, from classical ballet to dramatic contemporary dance, modern theatre dance, tap and song and dance.
The pace and variety was breathtaking given the ages of the smaller children and talented young teenagers.
The smiling faces and enthusiasm of the performers - including a number of boys - showed that they were enjoying themselves immensely.
Nor could one fail to be impressed by their polished professionalism.
Principal Angela Cantan said: “Once again all the students performed so well. The time spent rehearsing is worth it when we can put on such a professional and entertaining show.
“My thanks go to all the dancers and their parents, the many chaperones and to my associate choreographers, Laura Amer, Sabine Simmonds, Bethany Andrews and Sophie Weekes.
“I must also mention the terrific work done by our singing coach, Tim Spindler assisted by Sam Ryan.
“With so many and varied routines, scenery had to be minimal but this was overcome by lighting and visual effects from Mark Raggett.
“The whole production was a triumph of logistics and all credit must go to the stage crew for such slickness and with no hold-ups. Particular thanks go to Nikki Weekes who co-ordinated the organisation of the show and was also stage manager.”
The show marked the end of yet another highly successful year including RAD Ballet exams and ISTD Modern and Tap exams where 100 per cent of candidates gained a merit or distinction as well as great success at the British Arts Finals and a number of local festivals.
