THE Vanessa Golborn School of Dance is celebrating continuing success as three of its graduating students have been accepted to established dance schools to continue their studies.
For Harrison Wilde, 18, Vicky Austen, 18, and Phoebe Barrow, 15, it is the first major step in achieving their dancing ambitions.
Harrison has been awarded the prestigious Betty Laine scholarship to study on the three-year, full-time Level 6 diploma course at Laine Theatre Arts. He had also been offered places at Bird College and Urdang Academy.
He said: “I am proud and honoured to have been awarded this prestigious scholarship, and I could not have done it without the wonderful support of my family, amazing dance teachers and peers.”
Vicky has accepted a place on the Urdang Academy foundation course, but was also offered places at Laine Theatre Arts and London Studio Centre.
While Phoebe has been accepted by Ballet West on the Higher National Diploma course which also gives her the option to convert to a degree in the third year. Ballet West filters into a number of professional ballet companies.
She said: “It feels incredible to have been offered an opportunity like this and I am incredibly grateful to my dance teachers for all the work they have done over the years. I can’t wait to get started in September and wish the best of luck to my fellow dancers for the future.”
There was more success for Vanessa Golborn School of Dance students when 17-year-old Tori Scott was offered a three-year scholarship by Wilkes Academy, who scouted her at national dance convention Move It.
Although she has opted to stay in Alton for now to finish her A-Levels and continue her dance training, Tori said she was “absolutely delighted to have been offered a place at Wilkes Academy and the offer of a scholarship is just amazing”.
Earlier this year Megan Coates, 17, was awarded the Dischma Trust Scholarship for excellence in performing arts, enabling her to engage in further training before she starts to audition for full-time colleges next year.
The Vanessa Golborn School of Dance is based at Alton Sports Centre and runs more than 50 classes per week for students from two-and-a-half years old to adults.
