HOCKEY star striker Alex Danson, from Odiham, has had her Olympic gold medal hopes shattered.

Danson and her Great Britain team-mates suffered the heartache of a 2-1 defeat against Argentina on Wednesday night in the semi-finals of the women's competition to end their golden dreams.

Great Britain will now face New Zealand in a play-off for the bronze medal at the Riverbank Stadium.

Olympic gold was a dream that Danson has had since she first started playing hockey as an 11 year old with Alton Hockey Club.
