A WOMEN’S World Day of Prayer service takes place tomorrow at the Salvation Army headquarters, off Market Square in Alton, at 2pm.

The service this year has been prepared by the Christian women of Cuba on the theme ‘Receive Children, Receive Me’ and the speaker is Helen Jesty, who is Anna chaplain to the elderly.

The service is an opportunity to learn something about life in another part of the world, as well as being a part of this act of worship which sweeps across the globe. It is translated into 60 languages and 1,000 dialects, and more than 6,000 services will be held in Britain.

The day begins as the sun rises over the island of Samoa and continues until it sets off the coast of American Samoa 35 hours later with everyone sharing in the same service.
