A DOZY mother has been slammed by rail chiefs after pushing a pram across a Petersfield level crossing in front of an incoming train. A train driver was forced to hit the breaks on April 21 after the woman ignored the lowered barriers at the Kingsfernsden Lane crossing. The woman came within 600 yards of a fast-moving train heading from Petersfield to London Waterloo when she walked across the line at 4.25pm. The frightening incident – which was recorded as a near miss by South West Trains in their log – was reported by Network Rail this week. They believe the miss also illustrates why it's paramount to upgrade or close the School Lane level crossing in Sheet to vehicular traffic. For full story, see this week's Petersfield Herald.
