A MEMORIAL service is to be held in Bordon for a retired army officer who died in a road accident last Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Derrick Bly (65), who recently retired from his post as regimental administration officer at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, was on his way to play golf when he was killed.
The single vehicle accident happened near the village of Southwick in Hampshire.
His golfing partner, Major Jim Willcoxson of the Bordon Garrison, said: ÒHe will be sadly missed. The memorial service will celebrate his long and distinguished life and his military career.Ó
Lt Col Bly, from Clanfield, worked at SEME for around 47 years, both as a serving officer and later as a retired officer and was well known to both the military and civilian communities in the Bordon area.
The memorial service will be held in St GeorgeÕs Garrison Church in Station Road on January 28 at 1-30 pm. Anyone who knew him is welcome to attend.
A funeral service will be held on January 24 at Christ Church in Widley, starting at 10-30 am, followed by a ceremony at Portchester Crematorium.
Lt Col Bly leaves a widow, Molly, and three children.
