WAVERLEY councillors will decide whether to press ahead with attempted compulsory purchase of two land parcels needed to see through their East Street redevelopment.

The borough council announced this week that Odeon is now in contract with the development partners, Crest Nicholson, for the cinema that forms part of the mixed residential and retail scheme. A deal is also under negotiation with Marks & Spencer.

But real estate advisers working with Crest Nicholson have warned that while uncertainty remains over the land acquisition, it will be extremely hard to secure finance for the scheme.
