THE campaign to reduce the speed limit through Lindford village has been delayed by officers at Hampshire County Council. A decision day was due to be held on Monday, but was cancelled as it was felt it was no longer required. County councillor for Lindford, Adam Carew said: "I have contacted officers and again requested that the proposals be put out to public consultation as a matter of urgency "The main issue seems to hinge around the fact that the average speeds are currently around 39 -44mph". Under the 85 percentile rule, speed limits are determined by the speed limits at which most people travel and as motorists are averaging around 40mph the decision day was not held. "I have always found this difficult to understand – the majority of people are law abiding and travel at the speed limit indicated on the sign. So, if you set the sign at 30mph most people will travel at 30mph and slow everyone else down.  "I strongly feel that people driving through Lindford should be doing 30mph," said Mr Carew. This scheme has so far seen a great deal of popular support and has the full weight of the parish council behind it. Mr Carew added: "I will continue to lobby for this scheme to go out to public consultation and am fairly confident that we will see full implementation by March 2008.  "I fought hard for Lindford's village 30 scheme to be prioritised and I am not going to give up now".
