According to the Symondstone Community Action Group, heavy goods vehicles carrying the homes have blocked Bacon Lane between the Frensham Pond Hotel and the junction with Wishanger Lane with alarming frequency over the past fortnight.
On occasion, the action group says the lorry drivers have even placed ‘road closed’ signs at either end of the lane without the permission of the local highways authority Hampshire County Council, as well as felling trees and cutting back hedgerows along the delivery route.
In another incident at around 5pm last Friday, a mobile home was off-loaded on private land at the Frensham Pond Hotel without consent of the landowner and remained there overnight - overhanging the public carriageway with no lights, warning signs or even reflectors to warn oncoming traffic.
A spokesman for the four-star hotel said Countrywide Park Homes claimed it was advised to off-load the home by Hampshire Police, but neither the driver or the police sought the hotel’s permission first.
The trailer was eventually moved in the early hours of Saturday morning following several phone calls between the hotel and the company.
The disruption on Bacon Lane comes after East Hampshire District Council conceded in June that a historic limitation on the number of mobile homes allowed at Symondstone Farm was unenforceable, and gave Countrywide Park Homes leave to improve the farm’s infrastructure to accommodate a larger number of units.
The council did reinforce another condition contained in the farm’s original 1961 planning permission, stating the mobile homes could be used “for holiday occupation only”.
But Countrywide Park Homes has hinted that it still hopes to overthrow this limitation after a brochure for the trailer park recently distributed to local households included no mention of this limitation.
A website for the development, frenshamcountrypark.co.uk/, also neglects to address the holiday-use limitation.
A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “We can confirm that officers attended the Bacon Lane/Wishanger Lane crossroads near Headley Down around 3.15pm on Friday, November 14 after receiving a report that two vehicles were obstructing the highway.
“One vehicle was recovered and the other was removed by its owner. No crime was identified at the time.
“We are aware of the wider issue of the transportation of mobile homes in the Bacon Lane area and are working with our partners and the community to address it. We will take appropriate action if necessary.”
