ALTON’S Dementia Awareness Week launches today to highlight the problems faced by people living with the condition, the impact on their families and carers, and how these problems can be addressed.

For people seeking support and answers, the week offers a series of Dementia Friends sessions, the first at Marlfield Care Home on Gilbert White Way in Alton from 2pm-3pm on May 16. It will be followed on May 18 by a session at Brendoncare in Adams Way, from 10am-11am; on May 19 at Absolute Healthcare Providers, Pyramid House, Four Marks, from 2pm-3pm; and on May 20 at Quinta Nursing Home, Bentley, from 3pm-4.30pm.

To register and book, visit dementiafriends.org.uk.

The Alton Dementia Friendly team will also be manning an information stall with tombola at Alton’s Tuesday market, to be followed by the free screening of the film Still Alice, at Alton Methodist Church, at 7pm.

On Thursday, May 19, Orchard House will host a coffee morning at noon and a quiz night will be held at Alton Community Centre on Saturday, May 21, at 7.30pm.
