AROUND 200 soldiers will hit the road in Bordon next weekend as people in the town remember those who gave their today for our tomorrow.

Whitehill Town Council has begun making its final preparations for its annual Remembrance Service and Parade next Saturday, November 11.

This year’s event is being billed as the biggest yet for Whitehill and Bordon with 150 to 200 soldiers from the 4 Armoured Close Support Battalion of REME taking part in the annual march.

The battalion, which has a strong affiliation with Whitehill and Bordon, will march from The Shed along Camp Road to The War Memorial.

They will leave the starting point at 10.20am and are expected to reach the memorial at the corner of Camp Road and Ennerdale Road at 10.40am.

Residents who would like to observe the service have been urged to arrive at the war memorial by 10.10am.

Free parking will be available on the day at The Shed as there will be no parking near the memorial.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, representing His Majesty the King, will lead the wreath laying tributes.

Wreaths will also be laid by Whitehill mayor, Cllr Leeroy Scott, members of the public and representatives from the military, local authorities and community groups.

A service booklet containing a full programme of the day’s commemorative events will be available and can also be downloaded in advance from the Whitehill Town Council website at www.whitehilltowncouncil.gov.uk/remembrance

Motorists should note that Camp Road will be closed from 9.30am to midday, refreshments will be served after the service by volunteers from St Matthews church.

Meanwhile, motorists have been seeing red in Greatham as 25 giant poppies have been fixed to lampposts throughout the village by the parish council. More will be bought in years to come.
